Reflection; Syafiq

Assalammulaikaum,

The first day of Social Engagement meeting I was selected to be the leader of the social engagement group 14. At first, I was honoured and at the same time I was nervous and not confident enough if was not good enough. So, I said to myself, each day. “Try your very best in each part even if it a minor, do it like your seriously”. Since then, I try doing it seriously and try to best role of a leader but still needed some nut fixing in myself. As we continue on, we were joined but another group of Social engagement which is group 13 and I was happy at the first place because I have a partner who can motivate me, support and push me to be successful. He is my friend Shahidan, who help me a lot. After that, we had many meetings together with the group discussing the place we want to go, activities, tentative program, role of each person that are responsible in each session and many more. The team I had was very eager, quite enthusiastic, genius and some of them are in neural stance, but they did they best in any how to archive the target or goal set in to ace that Social Engagement Subject. I also had several meeting and discussion with Dr Nazri which is our supervisor about our tentative program, tips and guide how to do it, set up a due date to show the progress and motivate me to be better. We also had a hard time with Social engagement even all the discussing and plan we made, still was not prepare us to what coming next which is failure. Yes, it true. To set in every mind of the student to cooperate and handle them in one group of 25 student is not an easy task which is given to me. We might have delay or late managing time, event and meeting, clash of ideas and priorities among each other’s and some others difficulties along the way to make our Social engagement a success. Despite the hardships and difficulties, we had been through, we were able to pull it off with amazing result which I can said it that “I am very proud off my team on what we could do” although some might disagree but for my honest point of view, yes that was our achievement as a team. The preparation we had been prepare and countermeasure were set if there any sudden change in planed or problem.

SMK Shah Alam, we were succeeded to elaborate it with them to which I grateful and cannot thankful enough to them, teachers, counsellor and hostel warden to make this program with their student a success. We actually were active contacting each other’s in wassapp group and also set a date for a meeting to discuss this even further to make it run smoothly when the time came. Overall, they were super supportive and contributively throughout until the event and which I got motivated to give the best result During the program 3 days (5 – 7 April), we had various activities set which we pick that maybe help them in the future and motivate them to push even further and along the way we also counter some challenges and mostly is about managing time with sudden changes of planed to fit the environment and updated issue at the last minute. It tough for me be too strict because I don’t want to create conflict and put them in so much stress and try to co-op with them so I could learn something new, be productive and help each other out to create a teamwork. Of all that, the event run smoothly and we involve our self with the students to encourage them and share with them our knowledge and tips for them to score they examination and hopefully solve their problem. Honestly, I was surprised the student was very cooperative, smart, some are hyper and talkative and they overwhelmed me in every aspect with their critical thinking and their creativity. I could see their passion burning in their soul to be someone better and to improve. Throughout the event and they succeed it with flying colour which I must said I’m impress which I never would expect for myself to be that please. I would say it again and again that they will one day be succeed each of them in their life. It was a huge success for me and they also give us a huge gratitude for doing this event in their school and the teacher who were a person in charge behave the school, ask me personally

“ if there any other event you could involves us in, please contact us in because we want to apart of it”

which I was happy so heard that from the them SMK Shah Alam and maybe I would sometimes in the future. It was kinda sad to leave them because there is so much to share with them and someday, I will personally drop by anywhere possible to see the progress and just to say “Hai”.

Finally, I think social engagement taught me so much things that I’m myself are not aware of it in the beginning. Which is discipline, confidence, hard work, communicating play important role in a team building and finally is responsibility. The role I play and a leader for me is quite new because I never hold up a big responsibility and I think I’m not the best leader which I could say right now but I will that that as a lesson to me which people often said “Learn from your mistake is the best way to success”. It matters in fact it is true, among the successful people and I will follow that patch with them. Personally, the SMK Shah Alam student also help me a lot to which is see from myself there a nut needed to by fixing and tightly in. which is I have weakness and lack of in every aspect of a leader and as a student that need some practice and knowledge to be better. There is so much thing I wanted to learn to improve myself and social engagement surprisingly open up my eyes to see what I could do and could not do.

Lastly, I would believe that the experience of handling and involves with Social Engagement (GIG1001) would significantly bring impact to a person as a student and also in the future which involves in industrial world. Thank you much toward my crew’s member, my second family for all it to make this program a successful and thank you too for guiding me to be a better leader also have the opportunity to be a leader. Your guys are the best.
