Reflection; Wei Ying

After the seminar of Social Engagement (SE), I see the name list of my own group member, I did not recognize some of them and curious about what to do to complete this assignment. I inbox some of them and create a Whatsapp group to discuss about the assignment. However, seems most of us not recognize each other so no one volunteer to be our group leader and the discussion can’t proceed fluently. After sometime, Shidan volunteer to be our group leader, I really appreciate on his effort and his courage of trying new things which lead him to guide us for our discussion and help us to combine with another group to carry out this Youth Camp. After meeting everyone in the group, I found that we were so cooperate and so friendly to each other, we listened to others’ opinion and give effective suggestions on the camp. We prepared everything together and we had effective outcome in every meeting. The most memorable thing for me was during our fund raising day. Our group got the highest fund on that day, which really amaze me. I feel warm to all the people who are so kind and willing to help us to complete our camp. Before the event day, all of us collaborate to complete all the staff and schedule as well as planned the games and the flow for the camp. I have learn to be cooperate and well-planning skills before the event days.

On the 3 days of the event day, I feel so excited and joyful on the response of the participants. They were so cheerful on the camp although some participants were felt shy, but be a facilitator on the camp, we were responsible to cheer them up and enjoy the camp. On the first day of camp, me and Aireen be the facilitator of Group Captain Marvel. We guide them to recognize each other’s name and create their group cheers. They also modified the group cheers themselves and know each other very well. Through the interview stimulation section, I found that the participants have many types of ambition such as accountant, designer, manager and CEO. I feel proud of them because they have high self-esteem and know what they actually want. For the second and third days, through the activities Teatro de Suenos and Go Green, I found that the participants are very creative as they can credit a drama and costume themselves. Throughout the three days camp, I have learn leadership skills, public speaking and I have enhance my creativity from the participants although they are 3/ 4 years older than me.

After carrying out this Youth Camp, I found that I have learn many things from SE for instant I learn many skills from organising this camp, I also know the obstacles and ways to solve problems when organising a camp and also I feel happy in participating myself to contribute to our society. I wish I can take part in other volunteering projects in the future to help more people in our society to spread our love and warm-heart to the society, because as a teenager, we should contribute ourselves to our community as a paying off to them a we are the future of the world.
