Reflection; XueTing

When we first been informed that we have to take social engagement during this sem, i was actually quite excited but also anxious because to organise an event or activity is not easy as you think as it requires a lot of time to do the planning in order to make sure the activity able to run smoothly. After we know which group we are which is Group 14, we start our meeting after a few days. After much discussion about the activities we may able to carry out, we came out with our last decision which is doing a camp for secondary school students. We have email our proposal to some few potential secondary schools and SMK Shah Alam approve our proposal and allow us to held camp in their school. After some negotiating with the school teacher in charge, we set the date of camp on 5th, 6th and 7th April of 2019, which lasts for three days. I was happy that all our group members are cooperative as we discussed all the things step by step together. We have combined our group with Group 13 to organise the camp together as many people make the work easier. Before our camp, we have discussed about our timeline of activities and every details. We also do the donation drive in order to get the money for us to organising camp. I was quite satisfied as we successfully gain some of the money for our camp. Besides that, we sold the t-shirt that we have designed.

On the first day of camp, i was surprised when i saw all the participants. Most of them are initiative and showing a lot of enthusiasm towards this camp. Their enthusiasm motivated me to carry out every activities more better as they was giving us the good responses. We have gone through a lot of activities within these three days such as ice breaking games, interview tips, interview simulation, zumba dance, explorace and so on. I am the facilitator of Group Hulk. Some of them was quite shy at the beginning but they mingle well with each other very soon. I do helped them when they was thinking their group cheers. They are powerful to shout out their cheers. The event that i in charge of is “Go Green” during the last day of the camp. We have distributed the recycle materials for them and they was required to do their own costume using the materials given. I was surprised when i saw all their designs because all of them are just the way too creative! During the fashion show to display their costumes, they walked with confidence and some of them was funny. This activity had successfully done because all of them was giving full cooperation to us. This make me aware that cooperation is very important when we are doing something together in a group. Creative and good ideas can be brainstormed if there are many people giving the opinions.

To be conclude, this 3 days 2 nights camp has give me a really good and memorable memory. All the students there are more cheerful than those i saw before in other school. The success of this camp is because of the cooperation of everyone instead of one people alone. One people may not able to do everything, but one group of people will do. I will involve myself in the charity events like this again in the future if there is an opportunity. This is because through this kind of activity, i able to learn much in organising an event and also improve my leadership skill. The experience gained also meaningful to me.
